It's Plato, not anyone else

Last night was one of the best this year. Chilled out with Amanda at Marina Square. Two really tired people taking a break. The food at Genki Sushi was outrageously delicious. I don't know why I didn't know about it before. Perhaps it's the experience of every day army food that's made everything extra seductive. Crash was some good movie. It's depressing, but the down-to-earth America just makes everyone think about life. Outlive the moment.

Was told by my master-sergeant that I'll be involved in the NDP carnival at Marina South for the next two weeks. That's almost equal to dropping dead right now. Arghz. And I thought I've learnt the art of saying no in the army. But not this time round. Life in the army. You can imagine (look at the movies).

Restricted

Guess where I am. The title tells it all. I haven't been doing anything constructive in the army since returning from the injury. Don't know when they're gonna post me to a new unit, and reckon I should stop bugging people to find out my new posting. It's better to turn disappointments into surprises.

Bored. I's reading blogs of loads of ex-schoolmates, and wondered (thoughts which turn blue so quickly lately) why aren't most of my close friends going to study locally. But reckon absence brings friends closer. I can already imagine how broke from meeting-ups I'll become the next summer. Haha.

Anyway, I miss RJC. Confession. Was I really that cold during my JC days?

Ahoy, next summer

Stop crying your heart out and don't be scared to make the decision, Liu.

Really wish that I'm living in the East, by the way. In the next two months I'll hafta take my weekends out partying at nowhere but Changi Airport. Reckon some of the days I'll needa take leave too. Well, good friends are more important than anything that's left in the world after all.

Met Xiaowen for a movie last night at Plaza Singapora. Mindhunters was pretty much an averagely acceptable psychological thriller. More importantly, I've added a friend in my neighbourhood finally! It's gonna be two friends in the boring community of Alexandra till Hocks leaves this September. Blue.

Also, think I'll stop buying mixed alcohol from 7-eleven. They're simply distasteful.

Number Six, I'm gonna miss you dude.

Liu and the brothers

The stay-over at Don's was one of its kind. We've finally had a chance (for the most of us) to gather together and chill as Liu came back to Singapore to make his visa to the UK. Played ball with a club team at Yew Tee last night and ended up losing (as it's the first time in six months Z.K., Weibo and I touched a basketball) but enjoyed ourselves really tremendously. It felt just great to be playing as a team again. Though not spoken, all of us tacitly felt that it's time to pick up the ball as a team again. And it isn't much a lie, for Weibo, Don, Z.K. and I (while Z.K. and I aren't confirmed gonna be students of NUS in 2007) have decided to start training for the NUS team under our coach this August. Woohoo!

Took cab four times on one night with five big guys squeezing in a taxi every time was no joke. Impossible is nothing (quote Adidas). Wanted to find a pub to rock at Holland Village but it was way too crowded at Wala-wala, Tango's or Harry's. But what we didn't expect was that playing cards at Essential Brew in the end was really fun. Don's name-shouting game made our night attention-seekingly hilarious. Haha. Oh and was also forced to say hi to an attractive girl (by Kaiwei without any hints beforehand). That was extremely awkward. Luckily no one took a close-up at my face at that moment. Bleah.

Was supposed to have more fun-seeking events today after playing pool at noon but my eyes have uncompromisingly ordered me to retire and come back home. That was so much fun with the guys. Guess I'm a happy man after all. :)

To Liu, take care over there at London, man. We'll see ye again for sure next summer. Sometimes, I'm just glad that there'll be at least a few of us who are gonna stay in Singapore at anytime. This is the place where we became brothers.

The last friday night out

Just got back from Holland Village. The scene at Wala-wala was pretty dead though. Apart from two cool friends, over-aged women, passive smoke and squeezy crowd (literarily you could feel things nudging your chest =P) made me really bored. That's why I'm back so early. Haha.

Well it's nice to see Leon around again, coming back for holiday, after six months of school at the UK. He clicks well with Bernard my office buddy unsurprisingly. Cool minds think alike, eh?

And I'm pretty excited about the coming Gryphon's Cup this August. Our team (RI '02) belongs to the group of death in the first round when we've got only 5 or 6 players this year. OCS and SISPEC have banished half the team to Brunei and Taiwan. Arghz. But anyhow, can't wait for the tournament to come. Hafta get back to shape and play some decent basketball.

Blogging isn't a chore anymore. It's the in-the-house chill-out time. :)

2B or not 2B

Been reading a book on American Art History lately. Halfway through, and reckon I should really quote this paragraph about the American art scene in the 18th century (Benjamin West), "Here, people don't regard highly of art, but only recognising it as a craft, just like carpentry, tailoring and cobbling, with business exchanges between each other, you provide money, I paint a portrait. Don't expect a future for art here."

Does that ring a bell, anyone? All I can hope for is that in the next two hundred years, we'll have somebody like Pollock or Warhol walking around in town. Well, at least, Benjamin West didn't expect them to pop out from the ground.

Day after night

Way too cool.

Today was the first that I felt a tad proud of myself being in the Republic of Singapore Army. No, the sun did not rise up from the west this morning, nor did I manage to get a few days off. I was given the job to send one of the tanks from my camp to another with MSG Lee. Sitting on the passenger seat I was terrified yet somehow dignified. That was something. Something else was the astonishment of discovering the unimaginably camouflaged truth when I saw not just one hundred tanks in that really remote area of the island. Now you can imagine that.

And anyway it actually felt pretty much alright coming back to camp. All the superiors were happy with my return to help out at the office and lead the new batch of auxillary staff in the wing. But no summer stays for good. Got my status downgraded at the medical centre yesterday and reckon I'll be on my way out of Ayer Rajah in August. Dang. Somehow I'm gonna miss the place more than the last time after all.

Enjoy life.
